On Set for the Autumn/Winter 17/18 Photoshoot:
Dappled grey and dusty pink hues define the tone for the day, the perfect punctuation for a collection that derives inspiration from the vintage and reinvents with contemporary accents. It’s the same photoshoot team that produced the AW16/17 editorial pictures; an all-star line-up who by brand founder, Sara Hall’s admissions are the ‘best of the best in fashion.’
The team work quickly with razor sharp focus while Sara, dressed in a geometric dress, featuring the signature colour of the day – pink, directs the creative flair of this 10-person strong team.

‘I am so proud of this collection – it is classic, colourful and beautifully structured. The team have done a fantastic job of bringing my vision to life.’

The Sands & Hall Woman: Faultlessly Feminine
This is a collection for the woman empowered by femininity, a lady who is gracious and yet emboldened by her unfaltering inner compass and steadfast sense of self.
She’s a female in eternal flux, once you think you’ve got her, she’s already evolved. Indeed, the collection has the Gemini starsign (Sara’s zodiac sign) firmly rooted in its DNA.
This collection has been curated for women living rich lives, designed to enhance the wearer through simple, structured pieces in superior quality fabrics and expert finishing – never overpowering the essence of the person they adorn.
Model of the collection Lika encapsulates this notion, she’s impeccably elegant yet within her demeanour, the strong female voice of Sands & Hall can clearly be heard. Certainly, Lika’s persona astutely reflects the edgy undercurrents of this otherwise feminine and elegant collection. Lika’s make-up is applied by esteemed make-up artist Irena Rogers whose work regularly graces the pages of our favourite brands and fashion bibles, think, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Tatler and Stylist magazines.

“The Pink Loden was my go to for Paris this year. It is such a stand out piece, you will have heads turning when you enter the room in it.”
The Pink Loden oversize coat, the first to be shot, is a fashion forward piece charged with grace yet designed using hardwearing Steiner Loden fabric which earns the garment an earthy rawness, pitching the pieces acres away from the chaos of fast fashion and earning the collection an authentic allure.
A Sands & Hall constant best seller, the Hepburn Earth Original Cape, is a piece is designed to reflect the quilted landscape of the Scottish wilderness and crafted using Harris Tweed handwoven in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. It is this textile teamed with a vintage silhouette that allows the cape to emit a subtle smoulder of nostalgia and nods to the glamour of a bygone age, think Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Jacqui Kennedy. It’s a theme that is quintessentially Sands and Hall.

The design and styling team work with Sara to perfect the look for the Ashen Classic Fitted Cape
‘I loved seeing how the Hepburn Earth Original Cape fitted in with the new elements of the collection. You can really see the heritage of the brand and the evolution. We are still true to the original version but working to continuously develop our range and find new, exquisite materials to work with.’
Styling Sands & Hall
On the day, each look was expertly executed demonstrating the transient nature of each piece. Sands and Hall pieces are designed to endure season after season, these are evergreen pieces that can be updated according to the playful whims of the fashion calendar. Guru stylist, Natalie Hubbard (whose body of work includes esteemed industry names, Lacoste, Elle Magazine, InStyle, L’Oreal and MTV to name a handful) encapsulates weightlessness with her pairings of crisp white billowing flares or culottes, roll and turtle necks, fine knitwear and jersey pieces, achieving contemporary counterpoise with each look. For a moodier, evening aesthetic, a red lip is applied and hardened with gold hoops while Lika’s hair is tied back into a low bun earning the look an air of sophisticated authority.

Q & A with Sara Hall
1. What was your favourite outfit of the day?
My favourite outfit was the navy roll neck, navy trousers and ankle boots (I think I may need this entire outfit) this was paired with the Hepburn Earth Original Cape. I also adored the white long flared trousers and fitted white top that was teamed with the pink fitted cape. There was also an amazing pair of pale pink ankle boots on set – I adored them.
2. What are your top styling tips for the new collection?
I think for our new collection and considering the trends for this coming A/W you won’t go wrong with a soft cream roll neck, pointy loafers and cropped cigarette pants
3. What was the atmosphere like on set?
The shooting time was focused and driven. Everyone worked so well together which was so important to be able to get the entire collection shot in the one day with different looks.
Lunchtime was full of pitta bread – I went a little nuts on our Leon order, let’s just say the studio space had enough pitta and hummus for a week…
After the shoot we all headed to the nearby pub for cocktails which was much needed and great fun for the team to unwind after such a busy day.
4. If you could describe the new collection in 3 words what would they be?
Classic, colourful, structured.
5. And, if you could describe the Sands & Hall woman in 3 words what would they be?
Fun, elegant and confident
